I have exchange 2007, when I ctrl-click the outlook 2007 icon after several users connecto to outlook, check connection status the Directory servers are all connecting to servers that are not in the same site as these machines. I can't find any reason why.

When you go into AD Sites and Services, do you have multiple subnets and sites defined there? And do you have Exchange servers listed there as being in different sites? If you don't, then there's no reason for clients to connect to servers in the proper site.
