Wrong DNS server

Originally we had just one DHCP server on our network that was also serving as a DNS server. The DHCP server only gives out IP's based on your MAC address. It also assigns the router IP, DNS Server and DNS domain name. Just recently we added another DHCP server which is a domain controller for a completely separate domain. It assigns completely different IP's, DNS servers and DNS domain name. It also assigns IP's based on your MAC address. For some strange reason, if I lease an IP from the first DHCP server - after about 24 hours or so, i'll notice that my connection specific DNS suffix changes to the domain information (DNS suffix, DNS Server and DHCP server)of the second DHCP server. Although my IP address stays the same. A simple IPCONFIG /RENEW will restore my network settings from the first server. Any ideas on why my DNS info just changes on it's own?

You should try taking one workstation, going into the TCP/IP properties > Advanced > and set te NIC to append DNS suffixes in the order of the domain in which they are a part of.

I can try that but isn't that the whole purpose of DHCP - so that you don't have to manually modify network settings on every workstation?

True-

But the purpose here is to isolate the problem. Which at this point you don't know ... once isolated ... then fix. If you can determine that the dns suffixes are appending incorrectly (and subsequently fix it by manually setting it) you are at least on the road to a possible solution.
