I am using Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 server. I have an inbox that has nothing in it, but the inbox count shows (30) messages. Is there a cleanup reorganize utility that I need to use to clean up corrupted entries?

What is an ongoing maintenance plan for Exchange 2003?

Do you have Deleted Items Retention set? Even though you deleted the emails in the Inbox the store still may show messages exist. You also want to synchronize your controllers. Sometimes it takes time for the messages to disappear.

BTW, you posted in an Exchange 2000 Forum. You may want to post in Exchange 2003 Forum.

Exchange maintains a number of hidden emails that contain information about the user's settings. Inbox rules, OWA settings and other information can be here. Generally they don't take up much space though... <500K
