I would like to write/read a simple XML file for saving program settings, but there seem to be 36 different ways to do it, and the whole thing is pretty confusing. I am not looking for a ready made solution, but can anybody tell me which classes to use/way to go for the simplest implementation?

I need to run a program for an unattended PC. I want to avoid making backups, this means storing all settings on a network drive. I think I will save everything to registry and then convert the whole key to xml.
I'll try using a dataset and let you know.

We use .ini files here for settings. It may be an old method, but it works, and it's easy to edit.

I was just checking my copy of 101 .net how to samples. It has a project in it on working with config files and they are in XML format. You may want to check it out.
