I need a simple way to write a print job to disk. I'm running Clipper 5.01a under Windows 2000. We use the NET USE command under W2K to redirect print output to various printers on the network. I thought there might be a way to use NET USE to redirect output to a file, but at this point I haven't had any success getting it to work. It's VERY possible I don't understand all the capabilites of NET USE, but none the less if anyone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Keith Gilchrist

Why not just create a file of the report you are trying to print. Then use NET USE to direct the file to the proper printer.

Wherever possible I've always created a file and then sent it to the printer, either with set alternate to (when being lasy) or using file I/O commands. I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do, net use will basically attach your LPTx to a network device and not much else.

If you use the SET PRINT TO <filename> instead of an lpt device it should also work without many mods to your existing software. You can then do what you want to the file.

Hope this helps :) Ian Boys

Gentlemen, thanks for the responses. Didn't mean to be intentionally vague. Our situation is this, for a single use, management wants a report routed to a file so that it can be shipped to a third party via diskette. Since this mod is of limited use, I didn't want to spend a bunch of time reworking the program. The SET PRINTER TO command works perfectly. (Guess I'd forgotten about this!)

Anyway thanks Ian!
