Hi...

I would like to know if there's any way in JavaSript to write to disk a .txt file with the content of a variable.

Thanks.

Guillermo.

AFAIK, this can only be done with a Microsoft ActiveX object - which then limits your browser usage to IE only. If this is OK, your best bet will be to go to the Microsoft website and follow the examples there.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

I sincerely hope not! You could, however, write your variable to a cookie.

Greg.

Dear grega,

U definitely can write a file using javascript with active x control.

The control in question is the "FileSystemObject" ActiveX control. Yes - it definately can write out text files to your local HDD, and no - it is not a security hole, as you have to allow the control to run before it can do anything.

Hope this helps,
Dan
