I've just set-up a 15 machine network with all machines running XP Pro. They all have either Word `97 or 2000. The server is Running SBS 2000, and all users are configured with roaming profiles. These are working happily.

There is a mapped drive that all users can access called 'Shared' (funnily enough). All files and folders below this one are set to have 'Full Control' for 'Everyone'. However, when people are opening documents they are coming up as 'Read-Only' and when they go to save, they cant. We have already checked if someone else is using the doc, but thay arent.
I have forced a complete re-set on the sharing rights on the folders and files. But that didnt resolve it. The User with the problems, is a standard Domain User, but also has Admin priv's on the local machine. This hasnt helped.

Is there anything else I can try?

Cheers for you help!

Lewis - stressed and tired (

I have just read another post on what seems to be a simialr issue. However, I have tried possible soloutions from there, but with no joy.

The access rights to the share are for everyone too.

But, I'm getting hungry, time for a bagel. Any info greaty appreciated!!

So both security and sharing permissions for Everyone are full for this shared folder (and all security permissions same for all its subfolders)? And there are no other lesser permissions present anywhere? (remember, most restrictive setting applies - so if for example, a read only setting was present for group your users are members of it would override the Everyone full permission).

I have just set the permissions for all groups that have access to the shared folders (which are Administrators, BackOffice Internet Users and Everyone).

Not had a poblem. But will do some rigerous testing!

I have 15 women demanding it works.... *sweat*

Let me see if I understand. You have a drive partition (say "C") and it is marked READ. You then have a folder (say "DOCS") and it is marked FULL access. You want full access to the contents of the folder "DOC"?

If this is right, then I'm with you - I have the same problem and everything comes up readonly.

By the by, be sure to check your individual files that are currently stored to make sure that they are not set as readonly. Quite often I make this mistake when I move stuff off a CD onto a new drive and forget that all files will be copied on to the drive as readonly.

Other than that, I'm scratching my head as well.

Is the problem being caused by Word itself?
