Windows Product Activation is behaving strangely on one of my PCs. The icon has recently appeared informing me that Windows must be activated within XX days (even though there have been no hardware changes). Annoying, but I deal with that.

When I click on the icon to go through the activation procedure, the Activation app starts, but says that Windows has already been activated -- Press exit to close. The icon still appears, and the days are counting down, but each time I am told that Windows is already activated.

WinXP Pro SP-1, all updates are current. Anyone have any ideas before I wipe it off and reinstall?

Have you changed any "Services"? When I uncheck certain services for trouble-shooting, I get the Renew message. As soon as I restore all the services, the message goes away. I'd try an "sfc /scannow". Youll need your Win CD.

I'm a programmer... of course I've changed some of the services... I break things on a daily basis.

Joking aside, this particular machine is about as close to a default install as one gets. It runs nothing but Peachtree and Office, as it has for the last year. I've already reinstalled XP just to be thorough... so this is a dead issue.
