Works 2000 - can't open file

Trying to open any existing Works 2000 database file won't work and Windows 98SE reports 'illegal operation'.
If I start database by creating a new document then my original file can be opened OK.
Have tried reinstalling programme to no effect.
If I create a new database file, save it then try opening it again the difficulty remains.
Other Works 2000 files are OK i.e.word processor files etc; These open normally.
Any ideas?

I might try doing some checking around to see if there are any errors/bugs with DAO/ADO objects when used in Windows 98, AND make sure your copy of Windows is up to date, since there were all sorts of patches and fixes that came out for 98. Also, it wouldn't hurt seeing if Microsoft released some sort of updates/patches for Works 2000.
