i have a couple of pc's both with xp pro, i just wanted to set up a simple workgroup.

i called them LA and SYDNEY

i used the wizard on both, LA can see SYDNEY but when i double click it i am told i may not have permission etc.

when i click on SYDNEY i cannot even see LA or itself.

i have shared folders and drives on both.

very frustrating, can anyone advise.

thanks in advance

Jon

Look to at any Firewalls that may be restricting access.

Thanks Greg, great article.

Linney, spot on, it was my Personal Firewall on Norton Anti Virus, as soon as I disabled it the workgroup appeared!

Many thanks,

Jon

I hope this means you configured the firewall to allow LAN access and have not left it disabled?

Sadly yes, I am trying to find info on how to do that, if you know I would be grateful if you point me in the right direction.

For now i'm relying on the firewall that is built inot my linksys wireless router, which isn't ideal, but when i don't need to communicate with other pc's I enable it !

Amatuer....Guitly !

Thanks Greg,

Job done.

It all seems so simple now! Trouble is I hadn't a clue what to look for!

Many thanks to you both for your help, I've stoppped pulling out what little hair I have left.

Best regards,

Jon
