I have a w2kserver with Norton Internet Security installed. I have two computers connected to it. One w2k whick works fine, and one newly installed windows xp. Xp has not netBios protocol. I can't connect to the computer with the NIS from the XP. From the xp I can connect to the w2k. From the w2k I can connect to the xp, but only if the firewall is of on the w2kserver. I reached the w2kserver from the xp once when I deactivated the firewall.

It seems to be some firewall settings, any ideas?
Why doesn't xp have netbios?

Thanks Henrik

Make sure tcp/ip is installed on all machines and disable the firewall on the xp macine as it blocks ports needed for normal networking browsing.

ok, I've done that, but from time to time I loose the contact. From the xp to the server, other machines can connect to the server. Can I keep the connection alive in any way?

I remémber when I first installed the network, on a switch , with three w2k computers. I had problems when they lost each other sometimes. Then someone said to me that I should install the NETBEUI protocol. It worked fine after that. XP, has taken the NETBEUI as default away from the install. I thought it was that but after finding the protocol on the cd and intalling it the problem still repeated itself.

Any ideas?
