System is winxp pro sp3. Internet access works fine. Attempt to 'View workgroup computers' returns message from 'My Network Places' that

'workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use the network resource. Contact the administrator [which is me] of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.'

Other computer can ping itself and router, but not computer in question. Computer in question can ping itself, router and other computer. This might be firewall issue (Comodo on both computers, and in netgear wireless router).

Basic problem at this point, however, is that computer in question is denied access to its own workgroup.

Any suggestions,

Thanks.

Make sure that TCP ports 139 & 445 are open to machines on your local network.

where? On the router, in the firewall, in windows?

Have you had a look in the Event Viewer?

Search for the paragraph "Workgroup is not accessible" in this document (even try the available diagnoses if you like), there is a lot of useful information under that paragraph.

I created a script to add computer description to each machine and have noticed I seem to have the same problem on all my machines since I loaded XP SP3.
I can \\machine name fine but browsing MS Network errors inaccessible.
