Hi
I have a Access 2000 database with workgroup information file. I need to create new users and groups. How to do that? I create a new work group file but there are no tables or objects of my database in that workgroup file. can anyone tell me how to create a new workgroup since the user security wizard doesnt allow me to create a new it gives only modify the users or groups

thank you

pls let me know

HI.
Not quite sure if this is what your looking for but we had a similar problem with an over secured db that we couldnt tidy on the workgroup, so we did the following to resolve:

!!!! always take a back up copy first !!!

1 open existing db with your normal admin rights login
2 goto permisions and give everyone rights to everything
3 convert to prior access version and save under new name (can rename after this is all fixed)
4 create a new workgroup file and call it unsecured (this is under c:\Program files\ms office\office\wrkgadm.exe) following the wizard.
5 join the workgroup
6 open the new unsecured workgroup and assign the permissions that you require

I admit this might be a long winded approach to your problem but it might help

hi
thanks for your reply. I am just looking to create a workgroup information file for my database which has already a workgroup information file. user security wizard doesnt allow me to create a new one it says only to modify it.

there is no other way except to convert to prior versio and do it. cant we import all the objects and make a database and create a new workgroup information file.

thank you
pls let me know

Yes you can (create new and import, that would work, but you wont get over the other DB being governed by that one workgroup unless you have a specific one assigned to your app and another for generic use. otherwise pop-up will still appear

what about going to the wrkgrpadm.exe and instead of join, you should get a create on there? do a new for system.mdw and then you can modify the old one assuming you have renamed and assisgned correct permissions.

let me know how it goes
