I'm setting up a staff directory as a Mail Merge, and everything's all fine and dandy until we come to my {INCLUDEPICTURE} that is an absolute path to a folder on a network drive.

The path to the image needs to be:
{INCLUDEPICTURE "I:\\Inet\\Public\\CSSrvcs\\Roster\\Pictures\\{MERGEFIELD PersonID}.jpg"}

but everytime I try to save the template document, Word ever-so-helpfully resolves the path to be:
{INCLUDEPICTURE "../../../../SHRDIRS/INet/Public/CSSrvcs/Roster/Pictures/729.jpg" \* MERGEFORMATINET}
(the "729" part depends on whatever datasource record happened to be showing at the moment.)

AAUUUGGHHHH!! I won't be doing the actual merge myself, so I have to set the document up correctly for someone else to use it in the future. If Word resolves the path when I save it, then the Merge document won't work properly for the person who will be performing the actual merge.

Is there any way I can get Word to leave my code alone?

(I've never growled at my computer so much before.)

Another bug in Word XP. Go to Tools, Options, General, Web options, Files and uncheck "Update links on save".
