Since a few days, when I start Word, I get the message:

Windosw Installer: Preparing to install.

The A-drive is activated and the screen is only there for a few seconds.

Second mesage:

An error occured and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Please run Setup and select "Repair" to restore this application.
With an OK button.
Clicking on that and Word is running...but I can't save any document anymore.

The pc is not connected to internet nor a network, it's a standalone.
No programs installed for 'years'...

Any idea ?

TIA

I think you should re-install and try it again, like it says, using the Repair function.

Thanks for reply.

I tried that, but it's only and always the A-drive that is activated, no way to point to the D-drive with the Office cd, or the Win cd....

Most of the time, after the A drive doesn't find the target, it brings up a Browse button. If it doesn't, then just exit, and start from scratch by reinstalling from your CD.

...indeed, most of the time...

...but not this time.

I tried to put the cd in the D-drive and force the install, but Windows Installer screen pops up, the A-drive is activated and that's it.

It seems to me that there's something wrong with Win installer itself.

Have no experience with that.

Even via Start - install/remove software and trying to remove Office from there, no luck, same stopping point.

Sounds like your CD drive is not functioning, or the driver has been corrupted. You may need to reinstall the hardware and/or driver. If you haven't done this, you may want to call in a tech.

CD drive is functioning.

Several documents and files are used directly from cd...no problem with that...

It seems to be only when Windows Installer need something that it blocks on the A-drive.

Tried to install a program (just for test) and no problem, tried an other one that need Win Installer and now problems...

Think I have to move this topic to another forum ?

Possibly, I think you just left my area of expertise. I would repost and rephrase the question to Installer problem.

Sorry I couldn't help.
