I have other pecularities with 2000 running some things, but one is really odd and distinctive. Whenever I call the directory/file menu ("save as" or "open" e.g.)from Word97, it takes 20-40 seconds to show the whole list, then maybe 15-20 seconds to change directories. No other app does such. I'm running SR-2 of Word97 and ServicePak3 with W2K. Any ideas why, or how to fix?

It could be related to the fact that Word 97 is a 16 bit app and W2K is 32 bit. I know we have had several issues using Office 97 that ceased once upgraded to Office 2000.

Someone else suggested I reinstall Word97 in "FIX" (??) mode. Unfortunately this led to another and possibly related anamoly I have with 2000: Some setup programs (named "setup" or something else) flat won't run. I get a flash in the Task Manager screen and then it simply vanishes. There's no rhyme or reason which ones run and which ones don't. My Word97 (part of Works4.0 Suite) is one that won't run.
I've checked for hidden viruses (from an earlier post). Any other ideas??
