While writing fiction, names in my story as well as the pronouns describing them, were replaced with "I". Not automatically, but somewhere along the way during the multitude of Save Now and Save Often that I live by religiously. I also transport on floppy. So, is there a known problem with this that I need to find a patch or service pack for or is this one of those "sorry, just gotta deal with it" things?

Thanks,
Rog

I don't understand...you said that it doesn't happen automatically? So, it doesn't happen when you are typing it, but when you save the document, all the pronouns turn to "I"? Dawn

Yes and no. I can't say for sure it is happening when I save. I don't know exactly when the changes are occuring. I do know that the changes are not the result of autocorrect. This is not the first document that this is happening on either, and I have it one 2 different machines but both are running office 2k pro.

Example starting sentance:
John said he didn't understand the question Jane asked.

It doesn't autocorrect on the fly and there is no entry in the autocorrect to replace any of the text. I went through an editing steps after about 50 pages of text and this is what happened
Example results:
I said he didn't understand the question I asked.

And sometimes the 'he' will be replaced as well.
ex:
I said I didn't understand the question I asked.

It's not consistently doing this with every sentance, so I think I can rule out it autocorrecting, and sometimes it's hard to catch as some of the sentences are still gramatically correct. Some are not as spoken dialogue is sometimes not gramatically correct. However, this doesn't happen as I am typing them, it has been things I have found during an editing process.

Is it particular names and pronouns or all of them? It sounds like a global find and replace has been run on it although I don't know how it could happen automatically. Are you sure no one else has been 'fiddling' with your work? I can't think how this could happen otherwise. Unless it's some sort of virus. Have you got an up to date virus checker? Chromarog, I think you are just a compulsive fiction writer. How could Word know a pronoun when it saw one ;)

I'd take the tip about the Virus checker seriously.

Sorry I haven't gotten back in order to read the replies or answer questions.
Andy, I don't think it's virus, the machine that I use at work (on my lunch and break, of course) has Norton Corporate, and detects no viri. And I'm pretty certain there hasn't been anyone looking at my story, I'm kinda shy about it. But the names and pronouns are, strangely enough, a random occurence. I can't tell if the sentance is supposed to sound that way and I originally wrote it that way or not, some of them can go either way when I go back and read them.

I can't explain the occurence. The only real reason I can say is that I've been sleepwalking and 'fixing' my work.

Thanks for all your time and consideration. I don't mind making the corrections. It makes me more concious about picking up problems, but I wanted to run it by others to see if there were anyone else that may have run across this sort of thing.
