Using Office XP. A user has discovered that when she closes a word doc, even tho she doesnt want the changes to be saved...they are (auto save is not ticked). This only happens if she closes a document, not the whole program; when the program is closed, the changes arent saved. This is the first time i've seen this happen and it could cause havoc if its a known issue with Word XP. Has anyone had a similar issue and if so, is this a known problem?

Not exactly a known problem. My guess would be that there is a third party macro intercepting Word's File, Close command. Test for this by starting Word in Safe mode by opening Word from the Start, Run dialog: type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word will open in safe mode. Open a document, make an edit and then close the document. Does Word still save the changes without prompting?

If it doesn't, start Word normally and look in the macros list to see if there is an AutoClose macro (or similar name) listed. Rename it by adding XXX in front of the name and then test Word again. If that resolves the problem, delete the macro.

Thanks for the reply. I've checked as you mentioned and there is an auto_close macro in her list (and mine as well) but today her Word is working fine and not auto-saving. The macro name wont allow editing, viewing, or deleting as it says project is locked. We'll have to keep an eye on this to see how it continues.
