Word XP question

Several users are complaining that certain symbols (checkboxes) are not printing in Word 2002. I have two suspicions, but would like some feedback from other users that may have experienced the same problem.
My first suspicion is is the driver. Since the symbols are visible in print preview, I tend to lead to this being on the printer side.
The other suspicion that the font is the problem. (I have not gotten to actually visit their desk and experience the problem first hand.)

I forgot to mention that the symbols are not printing from documents that were created in earlier versions of MS Word. If any further info is needed, please feel free to ask.
