Programmer
I have recently installed Office XP Rro on my Windows XP Home box (with SP1). I chose not to install Outlook or Access. Word is terribly slow to insert an object like a Bitmap Image or MS Equation 3.0. I'll get the hourglass cursor and the program will not respond for 20-25 seconds. Then the object will be inserted as usual. Inserting any new object or double-clicking on any existing object to edit it always causes this problem. The problem is only in Word; in Excel or Powerpoint when I insert an object it appears almost immediately.
Also, since I have installed Office, my Visual Studio .NET has been slow to respond on startup. When loading a new project, it sometimes does the same thing -- hourglass cursor for 20-25 seconds and is very slow to respond to mouse clicks. I don't know if these two are connected; it's just a little extra information.
When either of these things are happening, there is no disk activity, and the Task Manager shows CPU usage at 0% and usage for WINWORD.EXE or MSDEV.EXE also at 0%. Maybe I have a certain service disabled or something? Just a thought.
Any responders; thanks very much for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.
