In Word XP, trying a mail merge, I click on the address book icon, try to use the Outlook address book (contacts). Error message begins "Unable to display the contents of this address book." Message ends with some text that indicates a possible permissions problem.

We are using a new machine with a fresh install of Office XP, and a PST that was copied from an old machine.

Outlook appears to be working ok with the copied PST.

I don't have an answer, but on my Word XP it requires Microsoft Exchange to be installed before it will bring in the Address Book. [I don't need it so haven't installed it.] Maybe the copied pst needs to be Imported into Outlook for Word to see it.

Is possible that the .pst file had a password attached to it?

The other problem that I can think of would be that you have associated the .pst as the default data file for MS Outlook and the username and password doesn't match as when it was originally created.

BTW, are you using MS Exchange Server?

No, we're not using Microsoft Exchange Server. We'll test the username/password idea to see if it helps.
