I see people all the time who TRY to use a spreadsheet like a word processor or a word processor like a spreadsheet. They don't seem to understand the capabilities and limitations of these applications.

But recall, earlier versions of Word showed only one instance in the task bar. The only way to change between open documents was with the "Window" menu.
The current flavor of Word makes each document appear to be a separate instance of Word in the task bar.
i don't know exactly why they want to do this. i was just asked if it were possible. i know that if they have smallish docs, they can embed them in excel, though that isn't quite the same thing....
thanks for the info,
mike

got more info from the user:
they have multiple long documents that they would like to provide some excel-tab-style navigation between the documents, instead of putting them in a folder and making the consumers of the info launch multiple word instances....

Years back, I used the Lotus word processing software, which did have tabs, and I found them quite useful. I also liked their Organiser, which had some extra little features like user-defined links between different sections.
I can't see any reason why tabs should not be available for text as well as spreadsheets. But I doubt we'll ever get them.
Take a look at Insert > Reference > Index and Tables, this allows you to go quickly to a section.
Also look at Bookmarks. If you have a bookmark for your index, you can nagivate round a document quite quickly.
