I am attempting to create standard templates that will be used by everyone. I would like for the signature part pull up a standard that would automatically fill in the writer's signature.

For example:
Thank you,
John Smith, III
Vice President of BS

Also, to have today's date come in once, and never be changed. I know you click on 'Insert', 'Date and Time', and click off the 'Automatically Update', but this does not add today's date to begin with.

Is it possible to have it linked to the Exchange Contacts to get a person's company name, address, fax number (if it is a fax), and phone number (same reason)?

Thanks for the help.

Hi trussman,

You can get the user's name via a USERNAME field, and the date the letter was created, printed or saved by a CREATEDATE, PRINTDATE or SAVEDATE field, respectively. See under Insert|Field.

if your document templates are set up correctly with the properties filled in correctly and updated as need be, then you can also use DOCPROPERTY fields to insert the author's name, manager (position title), company name, etc.

I can't help with linking to Exchange Contacts.

Cheers

Thanks for the information. I will give those a try.

1. When you say Exchange Contacts, do you mean Outlook Contacts? If so, you could use VBA to get data from Outlook.

2. "that would automatically fill in the writer's signature". What do you mean by automatically? How would your template know who the writer is? Is the assumption it is UserName? And which username? The name Word knows about - which is very easily changed - or the login username?
