Word opens up in two columns why? Help

Hi Folk,

Recently I did something that caused new MS Word pages to open up as a 2 column document instead of the usual one column page.

I was not able to find a fix for this when i selected Tools->Options. I even reinstalled Office 2000 hoping to resolve what seemed to be a degrading MS Word program. This issue of the double coulumns remained. Can any one help me resolve this.

Please don't reinstall right away. It's usually a waste of time. Here's the steps to Word troubleshooting:
