WORD AUTOEXEC MACRO() DOES NOT RUN

I have created a Word AutoExec macro but it does not run when word is started.
The macro is present and can be run from the menu no problem.
I have security level set to low.
The macro is local to a specific document and not global in Word itself, is this causing the problem?

Any pointers appreciated.

Not sure why AutoExec won't run, but you should be able to do what you want with the Document_Open() event asociated with ThisDocument. (Double-click "ThisDocument" in the project explorer and select Document from the left-hand combo box and Open from the right-hand combo box.)
