Word auto-indent

Hi all,
I'm sure there's an easy answer to this one. For some time now, Word2000 automatically indents numbered lists. This happens when
1) Autoformat picks up on a start of a numbered list, or
2) I hit the "numbered list" button on the formatting toolbar.

I prefer my lists to start at the left margin, and always find myself hitting the "decrease indent" button to correct Word's assumption. How do I change Word's automatic behavior?
