Word and Powerpoint hang when editing

Hi,
We have an odd situation on a few of our computers. When we open a powerpoint or word doc and then try edit it, it crashes. You have to end task to close it down. Has anyone seen this before? We have office2000 with sp3 (it is also happening on 2 other machines with sp1 and sp2 on it) on Windows2000 Prof machines.
