word 97 problems in reinstalled wins 2000 pro

have just reinstalled wins 2000 pro,reinstalled word 97,but cannot open it,get this error"application,must be installed to run,run set up from where you originally installed"


when click on a word doc "cannot find the file.....make sure the path and filename are correct,and all required libraries are available"

Only a thought, but did you try the stock answer of renaming/deleting the normal.dot file. Often fixes a multitude of problems in Word. It will create a new one as soon as you open it, but won't be replaced by a reinstall I believe.

i dont understand your fix?

i just noticed,the word files dont have.doc ending?

To better explain:
Double click "My Computer">Tools>Options>View
Uncheck "Hide file extensions to known file types"
Click OK
This will show all file extensions
Next:
Go to Start>Search>Files and Folders
Enter Normal.dot
Search local C:Find the path. Usually under the user profile in Documents and settings Application Data>Microsoft>Templates
If you copy the Normal.dot file from your profile and paste under this path on that users profile.

He/She will be able to use word.
