Word 97 crashing

Try this: click the Start button in the bottom left of your screen, select Run, and type winword.exe /a. Does Word open ok now? If it does, you've likely got template correuption. Find and rename Normal.dot to Normal.tod or something like that. Restart and start Word normally.
