An employee of ours has been asked to provide some help and lend his expertise with MS Word for a group working for one of our projects, but we have come across an item that we cannot answer easily.
One of our templates written for MS Word 2000 has fields to provide data for Appendices in the document. The Appendix Title in the document sets all of the field information by restarting all of the fields at zero by using the switch "\r" and a value of 0.
{ QUOTE "{ SEQ CHAPTER \R1 \* ALPHABETIC } { SEQ AH1 \R0 }....QUOTE "Appendix { SEQ CHAPTER \C \* ALPHABETIC }"" }
The field code above states that the field CHAPTER will follow a sequence based on capital letters and it will restart a 1 which equals A. The next sequence is for AH1, Appendix Heading Leve 1 (i.e., A.1) number. There are similar fields that are also set to restart at zero, but they have not been included. The final field is a QUOTE field that combines regular text with the results of fields. The answer should be "Appendix A", because the final sequence field is supposed to be a continuation of the previous field.
However, the field does not want to provide the correct result when MS Word 2003 is running. This will also affect any sub-headings in the appendix, and all of the Table and Figure captions in the document below the Appendix Title, because all of them contain the switch "\c".
Is anyone aware of any way to get around this problem, or why one version of MS Word works fine, while the same switch in a different version is not responding? The user is aware that if he sets the field to restart at the value that he wants, the problem goes away, but he wants to find out why the switch is not working as expected in Word 2003.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
