I’m wondering if there’s any way to differentiate the page number displayed in the TOC from the text on the same line.

For example, TOC level 1 text is all caps, but the page number also has that format. With numerals, this isn’t a problem. But in some cases Roman numerals are used, and it’s desired to have these in lower case as they are on the actual pages.

I can change the formatting in the TOC, but it reverts every time the TOC is updated.

It there any way to make this permanent?

Thanks for the help!

You could remove All Caps from your style (TOC 1).

The desired style for that level is All Caps. Hence the problem.

I've had a play with some options and I can get it to stick if you update just the page numbers but not the whole ToC. So I guess you are stuck with the numbers following the ToC Style.

Simply make a style for what you want as the ToC style, then use it. You do not have to use the default TOC styles for the ToC. You can use any style you like.

Gerry,

This IS a custom style.

I tried sticking a Style Separator before the number and changed the syle of the number. It updates fine if you just update the numbering, but if you update the whole ToC, it resets the original style.

If this can be achieved, it's going to need some clever VBA coding!

Oh, I assumed that when you wrote TOC level 1 it was Word's TOC style.

Hmmm.

Thanks for the input, folks.

I suspected it couldn’t be done (although I really hoped otherwise), but I wanted to be sure.
