Word 2003 SECTIONPAGES field 1

Hi folks,

In my document, I have used the following in my page footer:

Page { PAGE } of { SECTIONPAGES \* MERGEFORMAT }

This looks OK on screen and in print-preview, I get "Page 1 of 27" no problem. However, when I print out, I get the following sequence:

Page 1 of 1
Page 2 of 2
Page 3 of 3
Page 4 of 4

etc. How can I fix this? I have tried removing the "\* MERGEFORMAT". I have also tried printing with and without the "Update Fields" option set, but these make no difference. I have also tried it on two different printers.

Hi asrisk,

If you're up to date I'm surprised you have this problem but try [blue]Tools > Options > Print[/blue] tab and uncheck/disable [blue]Background printing[/blue] (not sure of exact set up in 2K3).

If you still have the problem, look at your printer page setup (via the printer) and make sure its the same as your Word page setup.

You appear to have hit the nail on the head with your Background Printing suggestion, though it is hard to fathom the reason why.

Star to you for a swift & accurate answer, negative star to Mr Gates for another hour wasted trying to make his software work properly.

Mr Gates' star tally is quite a large negative one - he does get some things right (honest!) but no-one gives him positive stars.
