Word 2003 Opens Slowly 2

A curious question - why does Word 2003 open faster (almost instantaneously) on my Dell Latitude D600 laptop (1.6 GHz Pentium M processor, 512 MB RAM) compared to the PC I built, which has a 3.0 GHz P4 Prescott CPU, 1.0 GB DDR2 RAM, 120GB Hatachi SATA hard drive, and an ASUS P4P800SE Mobo? Is the ATI Radeon 9200 video card slowing things? It takes a good 3 to 5 seconds to open Word 2003 on the PC compared to the laptop (instantaneous). This occurs even if I close out Norton Anti-Virus, Zone Alarm, and my anti-spyware. Nothing else is running in the background.

Any installed divices one the desktop that are not on the laptop. IE printers, scanners etc?

Most of the time its word loading macros and scanner drivers.

Have you got a local printer driver installed and set as Windows Default? Try starting Word in Safe Mode: from Start, Run, type in

winword /a

and press enter. This starts Word in its default install mode bypassing any macros, templates or add-ins. Does it open faster in safe mode?
