I having a strange issue with Microsoft Word 2002 w/SP3 on one of the XP Pro boxes. When I go to File>Open the "Open" dialog box opens just fine, BUT when I click on the pulldown menu it takes forever to open. When it opens, I click on a folder for example My Documents, it takes forever to open it. And the same thing happens if i try to access a folder on the network.

Here's what I've tried:

- Through Windows Explorer, I've checked to see if I have the same problem accessing folders. But it works fine through Windows Explorer.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft Office.
- I've Updated all the patches for Word, from Microsofts website.
- Disabled firewall

The only change that was made to the machine before this issue appeared was that I defragmented the drive and updated all windows patches. I did this on other machines as well, but they're working just fine.

Does anyone have any clue as to what the problem might be? I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

Word is installed Locally

I've also tried:
- Reregister word, start>run>winword /r
- Disabling Symantec Antivirus
- Deleted network shared printers (read a document by microst stating some network printer driver also cause word to open/save documents slow)

I seem to have found the answer to this particular problem! It turned out that the machine has a bad NIC or bad NIC driver. Initially the testing of NIC or network cable didn't occur to me, because even when I was accessing the files on the hardrive was very slow. Anyhow, thanks to everyone who read the post and gave it a thought!
