Word 2002 - Markup

Does anyone know how I can turn off the Markup option from the View menu when a document is loaded. I don't want to see comments / insertions & deletions etc when the document is first loaded.

If I turn it off, it never stays off for the next document ! Is this by design ?

I think that the Comments/Track Changes option being on or off is a document specific thing. When the document was saved before you got it, the user chose to show the comments/changes. After you turn them off, they don't show up for the next user. Try opening a document that has the comments/changes turned on, turning them off, saving it, and then opening it again to check that theory though.

Thanks for that - it works on documents but when I create a new document based on a template the Markup is activated even though the template doesn't have it on. Any thoughts ?
