Word 2002, Grammar checker for past tense not working

Hi, Why doesn't the spelling and grammar checker notice that this sentence is wrong " He was please to meet you". Shouldn't the grammar notice that the word "please" should be "pleased"? Is there a fix for this in word 2000 and 2002?
Does anyone else have this past tense problem??
