Hello everybody,

I'm curious if anyone has seen this before. One of our users was opening Word documents when she would get the following error message:

"This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document."

When you click "OK", you then get this error message: "The
Visual Basic environment could not be initialized."

Any ideas what's going on? I'm guessing possible registry damage. Any help would be most appreciated.

Ben

May be macro virus in the doc or in normal.dot? What for VBA env activated?..

It's the blaster virus. You need to get the cleaner (Symantec has one) and get the security patch from Microsoft.

I am having the same issue. I have Office XP installed on a server. We use Citrix to access our applications. The server is clean of viruses. The templates are not corrupt and when this occurs, if you browse to the system32 folder, you cannot see any of the files. Additionally, if you use a command prompt to set to system32, the error message is that the directory does not exist.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

I had this problem and solved it by making a change to the registry - please see below.

*** PLEASE NOTE: I take no responsibility for any problems you may experience as a result of amending your registry in this way. Your own registry may differ from mine depending on your configuration. You should ALWAYS, ALWAYS back up your registry before making any changes***

This is what I did:

Delete the entire key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data

The problem (in my case) was being caused by a corruption in this key. After it is deleted, it will be recreated automatically the next time you open Word, and the problem should no longer occur. If you are using Office 2K, the key will be under \Office 9.0\....

Good luck!!

Ant
