When trying to open a Word 2000 document on a win2K workstation, eggtimer comes up and stays there. Word itself will open, but does not open files. Task manager indicates that word is not responding. The problem is the same for files on network or local drives.

I have installed SP2 for office 2000, and reinstalled Office. MS also suggest deleting normal.dot and launching word with the /a switch, but neither made any difference.

The problem exists on only one workstation which does appear to be running very slowly, particularly when accessing the network.

I am experiencing the same problem with up to 5 users as of today. 3 users noted that their problem began after opening an attachment sent by a user who downloaded several infected files (even though no infected files detected on the 5 problem PCs). But the problem is Word will open but when attempting to open a file (network share or locally)the PC hangs. Have to perform ctrl, alt, del to end task - Word not responding. When I launch McAfee virus scan, a window immediately pops up 'Scanning Memory..' and McAfee is hung. Have to perform ctrl, alt, del, to end VirusScan. Reinstalling Word only allows user to work for so long. Any ideas?? The problem is growing!!!!!

Thanks in advance:)
