WMI does not stop service

i had an error message on my veritas backup.exe on WMI so to troubleshoot it, i wanted to stop WMI in Service.
But it didn't. it just keeps saying "Stopping" and in the evetn viewer, it's confirmed to have stopped. I need to resrart it but it doesn't let me since Service still thinks it's in the process of stopping. What do i do?
This is on Win2000 server. i really don't wanna reboot it.
please help.

abit rough but install ressource kit or copy "kill.exe" from ressource kit.

run kill <process> from command to stop..well whatever.

rough but it works.
