Hello all,
My OS is Win ME. Lately my computer has a problem shutting down. It gets to the black screen just before the "Safe to Shutdown" screen and then it hangs or sometimes hangs with a repeating beep, forcing me to press and hold the power button. After a couple of tries I looked at the Task List before shutting down and saw 2 or 3 instances of something called WJVIEW. After End-Tasking each instance shutdown performed normally. What I'd like to know is 1) What is WJVIEW and 2) why do I have to manually stop it from running ?
Thanx in advance.

WJView.exe is part of Visual J++, I'm not sure exactly what it does or why it is hanging, but I would try and ensure that your java programs finish properly before shutting the computer down.

Hi John ... thanx for your response ... I don't know what java programs I might be running ... can you give me an example ?

Thanx again.

do you write software in Visual J++?
If so, just ensure that it is closed down before you shut the computer down.

You can get some further insight if you go Start>Run MSINFO32 and view "Software Environment" Startup Programs, System Hooks, and Running Tasks....
Open it (msinfo32) right afer boot and then minimize it and open one app at a time, and go back to msinfo32 to view what has been added (in those three locations)...you should be able to track down which app or function/service is calling this task..
It may even be loaded at startup, by one of your startup prog's

hey again docslime;
Check IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab...see what's ticked out of the 3 Java VM choices..you only need "Java JIT compiler enabled" for most web browsing..untick the other two, and restart. (unless ofcourse you're specifically running the console for debugging)
Also, while in 'Advanced' use the "?" on top right for a little explanation.
