Hopefully I exlain this well enough...

I have a wireless router in the basement with a DSL connection. All wireless devices work very well. I want to connect the old Ethernet network on the 2nd floor to the WLAN and provide internet access to those computers through one Desktop systems with a wireless NIC and an Ethernet Card. So far so good, I think.

Problem is when the wired connection on the Desktop machine is plugged in I can't access get internet access through the WLAN. If I unplug it, the wireless card gets a fast connection immediately.

It would seem that Internet Explorer is using the wired card as it's only internet connection when it's plugged in. Both apdaters have different staic IP addresses. I've read up on related issues that others have had with no luck. Microsoft KB is leading me to thibk that this "may" be related to The Automatic Metric assignment being selected.

Anyone with a clue please help. Thanks in advance.

hererxnl,

While slightly different than your explanation, this link should provide you with the archeticture requirements to get what you want:

Hope you find this helpful

Thanks. I got it straight now by manually assigning metrics to the different adapters. Windows was choosing the ethernet adapter because it has a faster connection.
