I have a question about what to do with a wireless Datalink router and verizon as an ISP. The router wants to have an address of 192.168.1.1 and when I set the computer up to verizon directly the computer has a 192.168.1.X address. My question is if I change the IP address of the router to say 192.168.2.1 will it work or will it not forward to verizion. So, my real question is what address to set the router to so they will work properly together? Thanks.

These are private IP addresses and as long as your computer is on the same subnet as the router forwarding IP packets to Verizon should not be an issue. You should be able to log into your router and configure these settings. Open up IE and type 192.168.1.1 (or whatever the IP address of the router is) into the browser and you should get a login screen for the router. Type in the proper credentials (should be provided in the manual for the router) and you can go in and configure different settings. If you want to change the settings for the IP address range, find where you can configure the DHCP scope. Change the scope from 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.254 and change the router IP to 192.168.2.1. Configure the Windows computer to obtain the IP address and DNS settings automatically and you should be good to go. The default subnet mask for 192.168.X.X is 255.255.255.0. This means that if your router is configured for network 192.168.1.0, your computer needs an IP in the range of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 minus an IP used for the default gateway (router). If it is 192.168.2.0 it needs to be in the range of 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.254 minus an IP used for the default gateway and etc., etc. Why do you want to change the IP of the router anyways if I may ask? Are you having trouble accessing the Internet from the router by default?
