I know this is for linksys but I just dont know where to post my question, please move it if required

I bought a Microsoft wireless router with wireless notebook adapter(MN-820) router setup went really smooth it was when I try to install the adapter into my Laptop, I have a Satellite 4030CDT with 2 Type II slots 32 bit and thats the requirements of the adapter but it will not power up consequently the hardware is not recognised, I spoke to microsoft tech and he agreed it should work and I must have a faulty card so I went back to store got another one, same thing, anyone got any thoughts why this will not work. Thank you in advance....................John

does it appear in the device manager?
did you install the drivers first, then connect the card?
if it NEVER gets power to the card at all, try another card in that slot or try a different slot. Do they work? You may have a bent pin inside the socket. (not a fun thing to fix).

Thank you for the reply, I tried an SMC card also no luck, borrowed a Linksys from work and it fired right up so I guess I will be buying Linksys..............
