Wireless NIC Communication

I'm trying to find some information on working with wireless NICs with Perl. Active APs, SSID, Signal Strengths, etc.. as well as basic card configurations. I haven't been able to find much on the subject. I've written function specific sniffers for the law firm's network I administer, mainly for intrusion detection and odd behavior, but anyways, they have decided to go wireless and need to me to keep them secure, which I have no problem doing. It's just that up until now, I've been writing my own programs for the firm in Perl. However, I've never worked with wireless programming, hence my delay. Any information such as tutorials or places to start would be much appreciated, Windows and/or Linux is fine, I work with both. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have googled similar queries. Most results tend to point back to

which was a good read, however I'm looking for a few more articles. This was a good article for using wiconfig on a NetBSD machine through Perl, but when I said Windows and Linux is fine, I hadn't specified that both environments are fine, however I'm ultimatly looking for info on both to port the Linux version to Windows or vise versa. So I guess really, I'm looking more for Windows articles on this subject. Thanks for the response.
