Need a quick design help.
Think what I need is a wireless bridge, but not 100% sure. We have a little issue and need to get Broadband access asap, but lead times are not good at moment, so someone has offered to "loan" us their wireless connection. So what do I need, but need to keep costs down as much a possible.. Normally it would be easy but need to fire a web content filter in the way.

Temp solution.
4PC's > 5 port wired hub > Webserv Port A > Web server Port B > Wireless Bridge? Router? Extender? > Neigbours Wifi connection.

End solution
4pc's w/wireless cards (so we can lose the cables and may as well make use of the device above) > Wireless device (above) > Webserv Port A > Web server Port B > DSL Modem.

What device an I looking for to provide the wireless in both scenarios. I've tried a old 2wire device, but couldn't get it to bridge the 2 networks wirelessly i.e connect to another wireless router.

Thanks for your help guys.

Forget about the end result for now. I really wasn't clean on the end solution.

If you get an old Linksys WRT54G or other compatible router and use these instructions, you can do what you want.

Compatible router list

Hopefully you have gotten permission from your neighbor and aren't going to suck up all his bandwidth.

A bridge for scenario One, and an extender for your other scenario.

Though I don't quite understand whether you already have wireless cards in the machines or not.

If you do, and assuming your neighbor's wireless connection is strong enough you probably don't need anything but the wireless cards.

If its not strong enough to reach all the PC's, then yes, you'll need an extender. However if you want to include the web servers in the internet access they too must have a wireless card, or you will in fact need the bridge to get the wireless signal and bring it down to a wired network.

A Router would be required additionally to the bridge if its not able to perform both operations: Bridging and then routing.

Thanks guys.
tried to get a BT 2wire to do the job but no joy. Now have Linksys WRT54G3G donated for free, so going to try and hack that.

Nobody ever donates anything like that to me, so consider yourself lucky.

Actually it's quite amazing what a Non-profit / charity can blag, so long as you have the balls to ask for it.
