wipe clean disk drive to start over

I have windows ME loaded on my second system. (450mhz amd kII processor) I would like to completely wipe clean my hard drive and begin fresh with windows 98. Can anyone tell me how to accomplish deletting all items on the diskdrive. Windows me has files that it will not allow to be deleted. I am aware that I can boot from the sytems disk to get it started again.

well if you wana wipe it clean, not say a single thing on the drive, you wont need to try to delete anything, one of the easiest way to garantee a clean wipe of the entire drive, is to do a low level format from the BIOS, which goes through every part of your drive, and wipes them into zeros, another way would be to boot from a diskette, use fdisk /mbr, then delete partition (not as clean but it works)

you might also try a program like partition magic.....it will allow you to delete the partition and format the drive too.

Note: READ THE MANUAL for your hard drive. Some will NOT work after a low level format (through BIOS), and you may void the warranty as well.
kb244: This is NOT a recommended tech practice, and I know of no one else that would recommend this.
Most newer BIOS do not have that option anyhow.

To the original question: Boot to the startup disk, format c:\ , install windows.
