I had WinMe and I just installed WinXp but on the same partition , now when my comp start I don't get to choose the OS , only Xp Starts , although the files for winme
are still there , I simplydo not get the option.

i did a NEW INSTALLATION not upgrade

Is there anyway to get it back , without reinstallin both of them again ??

1. Installing 2 operating systems in the same partition is not a good idea.

2. Did you elect to save ME settings during XP install, so you could uninstall XP?

3. Did you install XP to C:\windows? This is also where ME installs. If not, you should have a dual boot. If you did, then your ME installation is dead. What ME files are still there? Without knowing exactly what you did with the XP install its difficult to know what's left of ME.

PS. I'm presuming filestore is still FAT32.

You can not uninstall Windows XP Professional if you:
Changed your hard disk configuration; for example, if you have converted from FAT to NTFS or have created new partitions.

Have you looked at these articles to see if anything applies to you.

wolluf , i did a clean install , i meant i didnot upgrade to me , new install.
The WinMe files are still there , in c:\windows i installed winxp in a folder c:\winxp on the same drive.

yeah now i realize , it's a bad idea to install on same partition.

liney thanx for the links but is there any way to get the option to choose me and xp , wihtout uninstalling , if not i will take out xp and install it again on a seperate hdd.

The way you installed, you SHOULD have a dual boot (unless you converted to NTFS - in which case your ME \windows folder is useless!). If you kept FAT32, have a look in root of C: for a file called bootsect.dos (possibly with different extension - should be 512 bytes in size - copy of ME's boot sector, which XP creates during install when it sets up dual boot - probably system, hidden, read-only so appropriate settings to see it). If its not there, then forget dual boot with current setup. If it is, then add this line to your boot.ini:- C:\="Windows ME". That will give you dual boot options - but may not work.

PS. Earlier comment holds - if you intend using dual boot for any length of time, put opeating systems on separate partitions.
