Hello,

I have might know why this happened. Windows restore does not work. I have 1 admin user, and two password protected users (NON ADMIN) accounts. The admin user was un-affected. Both user accounts (restricted) had the following:

*Desktop icons (a few like my Printers remained) removed
*Internet Explorer can’t restore to a previous time—up to a week ago. This is about the time the problem started.
*Links have prfE(x) x=E1 to E6 (hex) these files were temporary files and have a size of 0kb.

I was using a purchased program Child Lock
I was using a free program Fresh UI

It may have been some kind of crash between the two. I will contact them Monday. All accounts had to use these programs

I do have a backup of this machine, but only from Jan—will loose months of bookmarks and time.

Anyone have ideas or seen this happen in Windows? What could kill restore—says something like” SYSTEM RESTORE FAILED—YOUR COMPUTER WAS NOT CHANGED”.

Thanks,

Tom

System Restore does not restore user data or documents, so it will not cause users to lose their files, e-mail, browsing history, or favorites.

It is important to know what it does and does not do, and how it differs from a backup.

Hello.

There were desktop icons too. It failed to restore. I have never seen that before.

I am having a problem using the Windows Repair Console (f3).It gets to the last setup:
1) c:\windows

But when it asks for the Administrator password, it will not take it--says wrong password. I must be doing something wrong. This happened to another computer I worked on too. I know the password.

Any ideas,

Thanks,

Tom
