I'm trying to help a friend so all I know about the system is that it's WinXP Home but not sure which service packs are installed. It also uses NTFS.
The person tried using restore to go back to a previous date but now the computer hangs just before the login window. I tried repairing WinXP through the boot CD and this appeared to go fine but the same problem occurs.
I then installed a fresh version of WinXP Pro alongside XP Home and made the computer dual boot. This new install has worked fine and I can boot up and get into the c:\ file directory.
The problem is that I cannot gain access to the My Documents folders (it's NTFS so working on the XP Home security config) in order to try and recover the users files so that I can wipe the computer and start again.
Has anyone and ideas if it's possible to access this directory or fix the original XP Home boot problem?
Thanks in advance...
