I have problems with a machine on my network. When the user attempts to use WORD or even WordPad, we get the "Winword.exe has geneerated errors and will be closed by windows".
O/S: Windows 2000 Pro
Software: Office 2000 Premium
Machine: Dell Optiplex GXpro.

Now I have actually formatted the drive and reinstalled all afresh and we're still geting these errors. Any suggestions anyone?

Find and delete your Normal.dot file. Then try to run it again. Word will automatically recreate this file.

Any dog is just a dog. But if he has you
by the butt he's MR. Dog!

Believe it or not, try switching the default printer away from the network printer (i.e. point it at a local printer)....problem persist?

Oh, I'd encourage guinnessman to explore all of the above. Perhaps the normal.dot is the problem.
There's no absolute when it comes to this particular error.
I've resolved several conflicts with the suggestion I posted, yet I have no particular attachment to it.

Edrondol, I did try the Normal.dot deletion but alas it didn't work, but thanks.

Carr, I don't know how or why or ... but holy cow, that actually worked .... changing the default printer to a local printer instead of a network printer.
I'm flabbergahsted!
Can you make contact with the dead?

)

No paranormal powers...just painful past experience. (I can't tell you how long we wrestled with a situation just like yours.) Glad it worked. [thumbsup2]
